PAL & BUDDY PROGRAM

Through the Buddy program, McGill students (Pals) have the opportunity to provide friendship, guidance, and a safe space for individuals with  a speech and/or language disorder from the Montreal community (Buddies). The Buddy pair may communicate via phone, email, or in-person on a regular basis, based on the preferences and goals of the Buddy. As individuals with communication disorders may be left feeling socially isolated, the buddy program aims to provide companionship and strong social support for the Buddy, as well as support toward reaching their speech/language goals. Once paired, Pals work with the Buddy’s caregivers to set the time and frequency of meetings and as well as goals for the pairing. Through games and activities chosen by the Pal or provided by the S/LP, Buddy pairs work towards improving a variety of faculties including but not limited to vocabulary, memory, grammar, time management, following instructions, ease of speech and organization.
